Why the right tea preparation is so important
Tea preparation – How to get the best flavor from your tea
Like all fresh and high-quality foods, tea should be prepared correctly to bring out its full flavor. While making tea is much easier than cooking a meal, small details such as water temperature, tea quantity, and steeping time can make a significant difference.
But… don’t overcomplicate it! You don’t always have to follow instructions perfectly. Experiment and discover what works best for you.
Try adjusting the amount of tea leaves and the steeping time to find the flavor profile you personally enjoy most.
Once you prepare your favorite tea regularly, the process quickly becomes a natural routine, and you’ll no longer need to think about exact temperatures or measurements.
However, there are a few basic rules worth keeping in mind:
-
The more tea you use, the stronger the flavor will be.
-
The longer the steeping time, the more intense the flavor and aroma will become (note: this mainly applies to fruit and herbal teas).
-
Green tea that steeps too long becomes bitter and loses its delicate flavor.
-
The fresher the tea, the better the taste.
-
Different types of tea require different water temperatures (boiling water can damage green, white, yellow teas, and oolong teas).
-
Fruit teas develop their best aroma when prepared loose in a large container and then poured through a filter.
Tip:
There is a wide range of electric kettles with adjustable temperature settings available. This allows you to always choose the ideal water temperature for each type of tea.
